Natural wood timbers create a distinctive yet warm and welcoming look for your home, structure or project. Unlike composites, wood possesses unique characteristics that create an individual look and appeal, and no two timbers are absolutely identical- even if they’re taken from the same log. Colour, luster, the wood’s grain and texture all come into play to create each species’ visual appeal.
When it comes to appearance, WFP COAST TIMBERS is the superior brand of pacific softwood appearance-grade timbers.
Renowned for having the highest quality wood fiber and unparalleled visual appeal, all WFP COAST TIMBERS are held to the highest manufacturing standard to ensure consistent integrity and an unsurpassed beauty for outdoor living projects, interior architectural applications and design, custom timber homes, and industrial use.
WFP COAST TIMBERS are sustainably sourced from British Columbia’s magnificent Coastal region, and grow naturally in a spectrum of hues that range from a light honey yellow to a deep sienna red, and are in high demand for their warm, rich tonal qualities, fine grain and deep, natural luster.
Sought after by architects, designers, custom home builders and discerning homeowners alike, the combination of WFP COAST TIMBERS’ grain, texture and colours create a naturally luxurious appearance that no man-made material can replicate.
WFP COAST TIMBERS are graded for appearance purposes, have a full-resawn rough look on all sides and are available in a wide variety of dimensions to accommodate virtually any use and project.
Douglas-Fir is a beautiful wood species with exceptional strength, a warm, soothing colour, and can display a straight and fine grain that creates a very elegant and distinguished look.
Western Forest Products’ timbers milled from Douglas-Fir are sustainably sourced from responsibly managed forest land along the southern mainland coast of British Columbia and across Vancouver Island (with the exception of the very northern tip), as well as in the interior of the province.
Known for its combination of durability and fine looks, Douglas-Fir is a highly popular choice to work with as the wood seasons well and dries evenly, and remains straight and true with very little distortion or checking (naturally occurring cracks that appear in all large timbers).
Due to its high strength, Douglas-Fir is often used structurally in building and construction projects, as it is incredibly durable and abrasion-resistant, making it suitable for uses where wear is a factor, such as bridges, wharves, and trestles, log homes and commercial buildings.
In addition to its strength and durability, WFP’s Douglas-Fir timbers are also sought after as an appearance product and are among the finest timbers in the world to use where looks as well as strength are important, such as roof trusses, posts and beams.
Indigenous peoples in BC have used Douglas-Fir for centuries in numerous ways including the floors of lodges and sweat lodges, pit cooking fuel, fishing hooks and handles.

Timbers made from Western Red Cedar are in high demand for their warm, rich tonal qualities, fine grain and deep, natural luster. An incredibly beautiful species, WFP COAST TIMBERS grow naturally in a spectrum of hues that range from a light honey yellow to a deep sienna red. The combination of WFP COAST TIMBERS’ grain, texture and colors create a naturally luxurious appearance that no man-made material can replicate.
Furthermore, Western Red Cedar is ideally suited for indoor and outdoor applications. Western Red Cedar is rich in natural compounds that act as preservatives which make the wood highly resistant to weather, rot, and insects, and render it extremely long-lasting. For centuries First Nations have used Western Red Cedar to construct structures and carve totem poles, some of which are still standing today after hundreds of years. Western Red Cedar is also pitch and resin-free, meaning it readily accepts a wide range of stains and finishes. However, WFP COAST TIMBERS can also be left unfinished and will gradually develop a beautiful, rustic, silvery-gray patina over time.
Finishing and maintenance are recommendations provided by the Western Red Cedar Lumber Association (WRLCA). For more information on finishing and maintenance, please visit realcedar.com/outdoor/care-maintenance
Internationally recognized for its distinctive beauty, Yellow Cedar is the hardest, most durable cedar in the world, yet it is incredibly easy to mill and work with. Sought the world over for its sustainability as well as the long-term beauty they add to architectural projects, interior and exterior finishes, decks and outdoor structures, Western Forest Products’ Yellow Cedar timbers are ideally suited for a broad range of uses where strength and beauty are key factors. The species is also highly workable and is extremely popular in carving and custom work where appearance is a primary consideration.
Yellow Cedar boasts a smooth, rich texture and straight grain and generally displays a distinctive honey-yellow colour that creates an elegant and prestigious look. What’s more, Yellow Cedar has naturally occurring rot-repelling tannins and oils that make it weather and insect resistant. Like Western Red Cedar, when Yellow Cedar is freshly cut it has a distinct and pleasing aroma, adding another unique element to this highly versatile wood.
WFP’s Yellow Cedar timbers have earned an international reputation for their fine looks and high quality, and are used in distinguished architectural applications including Japanese temple construction, traditional housing, interior fittings, and, as it is naturally resistant to the elements, is a leading choice for use around environmentally sensitive areas and water systems as a safe alternative to chemically preserved wood. Yellow Cedar can be stained, or left unfinished to weather naturally to a silvery-grey colour.
Western Forest Products’ line of Yellow Cedar timbers come exclusively from responsibly managed and sustainably harvested forest land located on North America’s northern west coast.

Stunning and strong, Hemlock is used in a wide variety of construction -and in particular housing- projects. Hemlock’s strength, coupled with its receptiveness to preservatives, make it an excellent choice for outdoor applications such as timber construction, decking, garden construction and structures such as bridges, especially if cost is a consideration.
Hemlock is an incredibly beautiful wood that boasts a light, honey-coloured appearance and clear timbers have a uniform, tight grain, lustrous texture and unparalleled versatility that allows architects, designers and builders to create elegant, distinctive projects at an economical cost.
Although the species is exceptionally strong, Hemlock is very easily workable and is a highly popular choice for moldings and interior woodworking and in addition to timbers is often used in joints, veneered interior paneling, furniture, doors, floors and windows.
Sometimes referred to as Western hemlock, it is the single most plentiful tree species on the coast of British Columbia, where it grows primarily along the east and west sides of the Coast Range, from sea level to middle elevations, as well as in the interior wet belt of the Rocky Mountains. All WFP’s Hemlock Timbers are sustainably sourced and harvested and are completely renewable.
A non-resinous species that readily takes virtually any stain or finish extremely well, Hemlock also sands smoothly, glues easily and has a high nail and screw holding ability.
