Decking made from Western Red Cedar is highly sought after for it’s warm, rich look, and deep, natural luster. An incredibly beautiful species, WFP TRUESTYLE® Western Red Cedar grows in a spectrum of hues that range from a light honey yellow to a deep sienna red. The combination of WFP TRUESTYLE® grain, texture and colors create a naturally luxurious appearance that man-made materials can’t generally replicate.

What’s more, WFP TRUESTYLE® Western Red Cedar is a natural choice material for exterior applications like decks, as its fibers are rich in natural compounds that act as preservatives, providing the wood with a high resistance to moisture, decay, and insects, and rendering it long-lasting (it is worth noting that First Nations have used Western Red Cedar for centuries for structures and totem poles, some of which are still standing after hundreds of years).

• Western Red Cedar decking can be allowed to weather naturally to a silvery grey look, or a wide range of stains and coatings can be applied to help enhance performance.
• For best results coat all six sides before installation.
• New cedar decking that is going to be finished should be protected from the weather before a finish has been applied.
• Allow the product to acclimatize to the environment where it will be installed to avoid unwanted shrinkage or expansion.
• Fasteners with corrosion resistance should be used, like hot-dipped galvanized or stainless steel.
• Maintain your decking by keeping it free of dirt and debris. Avoid leaving objects like planters on your deck over the winter.
• Important Note: Never power-wash a deck because it damages the wood fibers.

Recognized for its distinctive beauty, Yellow Cedar is one of the hardest, most durable cedars, and yet, is still easy to mill. In addition to long-lasting structures like decks and docks, Yellow Cedar is popular for fine carving and custom work.

Yellow Cedar has a smooth, rich texture and straight grain and generally displays a distinctive honey-yellow colour. Yellow Cedar has naturally occurring rot-repelling tannins and oils that help make it weather and insect resistant. Like Western Red Cedar, when Yellow Cedar is freshly cut it has a distinct aroma, adding another unique element to this versatile wood. Yellow Cedar can be stained, or left unfinished to weather naturally to silvery-grey colour.
