Western Red Cedar timbers are highly sought after for their warm, rich look, and deep, natural luster. An incredibly beautiful wood, Western Red Cedar grows in a spectrum of hues that range from a light honey yellow through a soft, warm brown to a deep sienna red. The combination of WRC’s grain, texture and colours create a naturally luxurious appearance that no man-made material can replicate.
Not only does Western Red Cedar create a warm and natural design aesthetic, but the species is also incredibly durable and dimensionally stable and is an excellent choice where the integrity and beauty of the exposed wood are of equal importance.
Generally considered the ideal material for exterior applications, Western Red Cedar’s fibers are rich in natural compounds that act as preservatives, providing the wood with a high resistance to moisture, decay, and insects, and rendering the species extremely long-lasting. It is worth noting that First Nations have used Western Red Cedar for centuries for structures and totem poles, some of which are still standing after hundreds of years.
What’s more, Western Red Cedar is pitch and resin-free, meaning it readily accepts a wide range of finishes and stains. If preferred, Western Red Cedar can also be left unfinished and will gradually develop a beautiful, rustic silvery-gray patina over time.
Western Red Cedar is graded for both appearance and structural uses.

Yellow Cedar is internationally prized for its extreme durability (it is the hardest and most durable cedar in the world), excellent strength and wear properties, and unique beauty. The species has a distinctive and appealing uniform yellow colour and boasts a fine, straight grain that creates an elegant and prestigious look. What’s more, Yellow Cedar has naturally occurring rot-repelling tannins and oils that make it weather and insect resistant. Like Western Red Cedar, when Yellow Cedar is freshly cut it has a distinct and pleasing aroma, adding another unique element to this highly versatile wood.
Sought the world over for its sustainability as well as the long-term beauty they create, Western Forest Products’ Yellow Cedar timbers are ideally suited for a broad range of uses where strength and appearance are key factors. The species is also highly workable and is extremely popular in carving and custom work where appearance is a primary consideration.
WFP’s Yellow Cedar timbers have earned an international reputation for their fine looks and high quality, and are used in distinguished architectural applications including Japanese temple construction, traditional housing, interior fittings, and, as it is naturally resistant to the elements, is a leading choice for use around environmentally sensitive areas and water systems as a safe alternative to chemically preserved wood. Yellow Cedar can be stained, or left unfinished to weather naturally to a silvery-grey colour.
Western Forest Products’ line of Yellow Cedar timbers come exclusively from responsibly managed and sustainably harvested forest land located on North America’s northern west coast.

Douglas-Fir is a highly attractive wood that often displays an exceptionally straight and fine grain that creates an elegant and appealing look. Known for its incredibly durable fiber, Douglas-Fir can be distinguished by its impressive strength to weight ratio and outstanding dimensional stability, making it an excellent material for timbers, particularly where looks are essential.
Western Forest Products’ timbers milled from Douglas-Fir are sustainably sourced from responsibly managed forest land along the southern mainland coast of British Columbia and across Vancouver Island (with the exception of the very northern tip), as well as in the interior of the province.
Internationally sought after, WFP’s Douglas-Fir timbers are an extremely popular choice to work with as the wood seasons well and dries evenly, and remains straight and true with very little distortion or checking (naturally occurring cracks that appear in all large timbers).
Due to its high strength, Douglas-Fir is often used structurally in building and construction projects, as it is incredibly durable and abrasion-resistant, making it suitable for uses where wear is a factor, such as bridges, wharves, and trestles, log homes and commercial buildings.
In addition to its strength and durability, WFP’s Douglas-Fir timbers are also used as an appearance product and are among the finest timbers in the world to use where looks as well as strength are important, such as roof trusses, posts and beams.

Hemlock has a clear, lustrous surface, a pale honey or straw colour, and often features a highly attractive uniform, tight grain. Hemlock is particularly versatile and is used in a wide variety of construction -and in particular housing- projects. Hemlock’s strength, coupled with its receptiveness to preservatives, also make it an excellent choice for outdoor applications such as timber construction, decking, garden construction and structures such as bridges, especially where cost is a consideration.
Although the species is exceptionally strong, Hemlock is very easily workable and is a highly popular choice for moldings and interior woodworking and in addition to timbers is often used in joints, veneered interior paneling, furniture, doors, floors and windows.
Sometimes referred to as Western hemlock, it is the single most plentiful tree species on the coast of British Columbia, where it grows primarily along the east and west sides of the Coast Range, from sea level to middle elevations, as well as in the interior wet belt of the Rocky Mountains. All WFP’s Hemlock Timbers are sustainably sourced and harvested and are completely renewable.
A non-resinous species that readily takes virtually any stain or finish extremely well, Hemlock also sands smoothly, glues easily and has a high nail and screw holding ability.
